It is often the case that suburban villas with large gardens have found themselves a century later rather close to the city centre, where rising land values force extension if not redevelopment. In this case, the turn of the century villa was already listed as as historic monument...

Instead of trying to imitate the old villa architecturally, on opposite course was choosen. To make a sharp contrast, a machine-made metallic box to counter the old decorated stucco with its hand-made ornamental detail was added. Gaps in the faces of the cladding allow windows to appear here and there, their various planes carefully layered so the overall effect is far from flat...
